Two Finger

Start with your thumb towards the ball and your baton between your index and middle finger.

Winding the Baton

To wind means to move your baton through your first two fingers counterclockwise (if you are right-handed).  Keep your palm up.  Use your free hand to guide you if you need to do so at first.
