YouTube Figure 8 Video

Below is an example of a forward figure 8.  You hold your baton straight out in front of you, then turn your wrist so that your thumb is down.  You then make a loop to your left, then turn your wrist over so that your thumb is down again, make  a loop to your right.  Continue.

You can see from the illustration that you start out in the middle following the green arrows, then blue, then red to continue.

Reverse Figure 8.  Here is an example of a reverse figure 8.  You start your first loop on your right side, instead of your left side.
This may help:  Just think of the number 8 turned sideways and pretend to trace it.  Do a forward figure 8, stop and go the other direction, just like tracing it backwards.
Again, as illustrated by the photo, follow the green arrows first, then blue, then red to continue.

Dive Loop Down.  This is what I call a dive loop down, which is just part of a forward figure 8.  As the photo illustrates, you do not do the first (left side loop), you just dive down (turn your wrist over so that your thumb is facing down) then make a right-sided loop.
This move is often used to connect one trick to another.  Often used after aerial tosses.

A lunge is often done with a reverse figure 8 combination.  As shown from the illustration, your left leg is bent slightly, and your right leg is positioned straight behind with your toes pointed.

Reverse Dive Loop Combination.  This is an example of the first 2 counts of the Reverse Dive Loop Combination.  You make the 2 counts of a Reverse Figure 8 as you lunge.  You need to make your loops narrow when you do this move, as shown by the illustration.
Follow green arrows first, then blue, and red to continue.

Count 3-4 of a Reverse Dive Loop Combination.  As you bring you feet together from the lunge,  dive - turn your wrist so that your thumb is down - then make the loop high over your head and bring your arm down as your bring your feet together.  Follow the red arrows first (count 3), then the yellow (count 4).
